Father’s Day Gifts That Give Back

Jared Padalecki enjoying Father’s Day with his kids

One of the things I love about Jared is the sense of adventure and love for the outdoors that he nurtures in our children. Whether it’s bike riding, boating or feeding our chickens, nature is part of our family values.

One particular adventure Jared loves is taking our kiddos to Lake Austin where they explore the coves, fish, water ski and soak in the sun. We’re hoping the weather cooperates so we can spend this Father’s Day out on the water as a family. Jared’s parents and brother will be over, I’ll pack a lunch, and we’ll splash the day away.

We try to emphasise time together, rather than gifting, but I do have a short list of gifts I like for the father figures in my life. Each of these Father’s Day gift ideas are inspired by our love for the great outdoors – and each do a little something to help give back.

Whether he’s into hiking, wine or watches, I hope one of these unique Father’s Day gifts will help make your dad’s day.Father’s Day Gift Ideas

1. Do Good Hoodie

The ultimate feel-good purchase: This super comfy hoodie is made from plastic bottles that would’ve otherwise ended up in a landfill. Cotopaxi shreds the bottles into flakes, which are then melted and transformed into soft yarn that gives these sweatshirts a surprisingly soft feel.

2. Leather Paper Journals made in the Philippines

Whether he’s sketching or scribbling his thoughts, the pensive dad (see what I did there??) will love this beautiful leather paper journal. It’s tear resistant so can hold up to Dad life and supports the innovative artisans of the Salay Handmade Industries community in the Philippines.

3. TenTree Cork Wallet

This sustainable, eco-friendly cork wallet is durable and looks pretty damn cool – plus, for each one sold, ten trees are planted!

4. Fifty-Nine Parks Poster

Celebrate your favorite national park memory with Dad with a scenic poster from the Fifty-Nine Parks Print Series. The stunning images by an eclectic mix of artists showcase the unique beauty of each park—plus, five percent of each poster purchase is donated to The National Park Service who work to keep these lands beautiful for years to come.

5. One Hope Wine 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon

Sunday BBQs call for a glass of good red. One more reason to cheers? Each bottle of this cab sold helps to fund crucial therapy programs for children with autism.

6. Hand-Blown Amber Glass Beer Mugs

Even the cheapest lager will taste fancy in these beautiful beer mugs. The hand blown glasses are made by Mexican artisans and each purchase helps provide children in developing countries with lifesaving nutrition and vaccinations through UNICEF.

7. We Wood Watch

A timepiece and a conversation piece – this eco-friendly company uses recycled materials and reclaimed wood to make unique, everyday watches. The best part: A new tree is planted with Trees for The Future for every wood watch purchased.

8. Parks Project Tee

This vintage-inspired Super Natural tee (ha!) is the perfect way to inspire Dad for your next park outing. It’s ultra-comfy and five percent of proceeds from the Stranger Places collection benefit the National Park Foundation to help fund a kid to visit a park through the Open OutDoors for Kids Program.

9. Patagonia Hemp Jacket

This jacket is made from hemp – earth’s strongest natural fiber – and perfect for the rugged outdoor dad. An OG of active adventure wear, Patagonia has lead the way for corporate environmental activism, using sustainable, fair trade supply chains, recycled materials and donating a percentage of all sales to environmental groups to support their mission to protect the planet.

10. Grounds & Hounds Single Origin Explorer’s Kit

Every parent on the planet needs coffee…bottomless coffee. So a bag of high-quality beans is a fail proof gift. This kit helps Dad fuel his day with three delicious, hand-picked coffee beans from the world’s best coffee growing regions. Grounds are always organic and fair trade and, with 20% of profits supporting dog rescue organizations, he can sip happy knowing every cup helps a pup!

11. Everlane Modern Snap Backpack

Every Dad needs a great carry all and this stylish backpack is perfect for commuting and traveling! It’s modern, clean and durable and Everlane has a great reputation for their commitment to ethical labor and sourcing practices.

12. SUAVS Shoes

Joke about women and their shoes all day long, but I know plenty equally shoe-obsessed men (hey, Jared…). These versatile, comfy SUAVS are the perfect shoe for every dad on the go. We love how breathable these are even during the hot summer months! Most importantly, we love their mission. This Austin-based shoe company is committed to sustainability and donates all extra inventory to organizations like Soles4Souls and LifeWorks.

This is great gen ? I lost my dad a few years ago as a youngish dad. Miss him immensely everyday. These ideas are great for any man in our lives. Love your efforts and hope you get your fathers day on the lake ??⛵⚓?

Amazing ideas! I love the wine one, I work with young adults with autism as a child and youth care practitioner and I never knew something like that existed! I’ll be sure to grab a bottle and tell my co-workers and clients parents about it too!

Family time is so important. My father died 7 years ago and I miss him very much. In Germany we already had Father’s Day and I wish you a nice Father’s Day

Personally, while I’m not sure on the green-friendly factor, my husband loves Saxx and is getting a pair for both Father’s day and his birthday (which is just after Father’s day). He loves the undies, I just don’t tell him that I heard about them from a super tall guy who can’t help that his shirts are short and ride up with any arm movement. ?

Oh, those beer mugs! And the fact that you’re helping Unicef, too! Perfect sort of gift for a First Father’s Day. Thanks, Gen!

I love the idea, that when an item is bought, an tree is planted for each customer. We need trees and trees are pretty in Autumn Months. Great job, Mrs. Padalecki
