It’s the most wonderful time of the year. Kids are out of school for weeks (three here in Texas), which means we get to slow down, sleep in, relax, and enjoy just hanging out. But let’s be honest: That’s also a lot of time to fill! In case you’re looking for some DIY holiday craft projects to do with the kiddos, I’ve rounded up four fun craft projects my kids and I love. Bonus: Some make easy gifts for family and friends, too.
Check them out below, and then let me know in the comments: What’s your favorite holiday craft tradition?

Orange pomanders
I love fun DIY or organic ways to decorate a room, and I love garlands, flowers and special holiday pieces my kiddos make. One idea that I had always wanted to try were beautiful clove-studded oranges. My friend and interior designer (and incredibly talented DIYer) Virginia Davidson came over and set me up. The end result was both gorgeous and a fragrant way to decorate your mantel or dining room. (We hung ours on a hat rack and loved it!)

Salt dough ornaments
In need of an easy gift or just want to burn up a few hours with the kids? These salt dough ornaments are easy and fun to make. Your kids will probably make a paint-filled mess, but there will also be lots of amazing memories.

DIY wrapping paper
Kill two birds with one stone by setting up a DIY wrapping paper station. The kids will love painting and spending quality time together, and you’ll love having the personalized paper to wrap your holiday gifts.

KiwiCo Christmas Village Advent Calendar
This year, the kids and I are counting down to Christmas by putting together this mini village from KiwiCo. Starting on Dec. 1, we’ve opened an envelope each day and found a new project. Sometimes it’s a tree, other times a house or a reindeer. It’s been so fun watching the village grow and change as the days tick by. Sadly, the project is currently out of stock, but KiwiCo has lots of other fun craft projects to choose from, including a crystal chemistry tree and Santa’s sleigh automation.
